Nicolas Cage Returns as the Web-Slinger in Gritty ‘Spider-Noir’ Trailer

The wait is over for fans of the darker side of the Marvel multiverse. The official full-length trailer for Spider-Noir, Prime Video’s highly anticipated live-action series, has officially debuted, showcasing Nicolas Cage in his first-ever leading role for a television series. Revealed at the CCXPMX26 pop culture festival in Mexico City, the footage offers a first look at a 1930s-era New York steeped in mystery, corruption, and danger.

A New Kind of Hero: Ben Reilly

In this standalone story—separate from the current Sony movie or Spider-Verse franchises—Cage portrays Ben Reilly. Reilly is described as an aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator navigating the gritty streets of the Great Depression. The series follows his struggle as he is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s only superhero, “The Spider,” while rediscovering his powers.

Co-showrunner Oren Uziel noted that the name was changed from Peter Parker to Ben Reilly because “Peter Parker feels very synonymous with a high school kid,” whereas this version of the hero is “older and jaded”. Cage has stated he channeled a performance that is “70 percent Humphrey Bogart and 30 percent Bugs Bunny”.

Villains and Gritty Visuals

The trailer highlights a tense atmosphere where “every mystery forms a complex web”. It prominently features Cage’s Reilly facing off against an Irish crime boss played by Brendan Gleeson, identified as the classic comic book villain Silvermane.

The series is confirmed to feature a formidable rogues’ gallery, including:

  • Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson): A mob boss with deep connections to Reilly’s past.
  • Sandman (Jack Huston): A bodyguard whose super powers are slowly killing him.
  • Tombstone (Abraham Popoola): A World War I veteran seeking an opportunity to get ahead.
  • Electro (Joe Massingill): A classic villain capable of controlling electricity and blasting lightning.

One of the most unique aspects of the production is the dual visual format. Viewers will have the choice to stream the series in “Authentic Black & White,” reflecting its noir roots, or “True-Hue Full Color,” a “super-saturated” Technicolor-like version.

Cast and Creative Team

The series boasts a high-profile ensemble cast, including Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Li Jun Li as the femme fatale singer Cat Hardy, and Karen Rodriguez as Reilly’s secretary, Janet.

Behind the scenes, the project is led by co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who developed the series alongside the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse creative team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. The first two episodes are directed by Emmy-winner Harry Bradbeer.

Release Date and Binge Premiere

Mark your calendars: Spider-Noir will premiere on MGM+ on May 25, 2026, and globally on Prime Video on May 27, 2026. The series will consist of eight 45-minute episodes and will be released as a binge release, allowing fans to dive into the entire 1930s mystery at once. As the trailer’s cheeky tagline suggests: “With no power, comes no responsibility”.
